Roost began with one hard postpartum season, a very different second one, and two midwives who showed what could change in between.
When I had my first baby, my partner and I took hours of classes, designed the perfect nursery, and built a detailed birth plan. I felt prepared – until an emergency c-section left me unprepared for everything that followed: the recovery, the hormone shifts, the strain on our relationship. The classes we'd spent hundreds on had skipped the very things I needed to know most.
When I got pregnant with my second, I was determined to have a different experience. I built a care team who balanced honesty with warmth – Megan and Whitney were the cornerstones, both by my side as midwives as our second son was born. Their prenatal, postpartum and lactation care made my second postpartum season night and day from my first: instead of surviving the fourth trimester, I found joy in it. I still struggled with the challenges inherent to this phase – sleep deprivation, feeling constantly needed, renegotiating my relationship with my suddenly oh-so-grown-up toddler – but there was a sense of peace I'd never experienced after my first. Part of that was simple reps, but much of it was the care team that held and supported me.
In our follow-up visits, I found myself thanking them for flipping the script. We realized what had actually changed wasn't so much the clinical care, but the honesty and the community it was grounded in – and that we could infuse those same elements into a class to help other families navigate this acute period. Roost was born out of that idea, and hope that more parents are able to meet this chapter with calm and confidence.
Three founders, one shared belief: that honest, evidence-based guidance and real community can change how parents move through this season.

Megan has been a practicing midwife for 11 years, serving as a primary midwife at Andaluz Waterbirth Center and a homebirth midwife with Milk and Honey Birth Services. Over her career she has worked with more than 1,000 families and attended around 500 births. She is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Licensed Direct-Entry Midwife (LDM).

Jessa has spent over a decade in brand marketing and strategy, most recently at Nike, where she led cross-functional teams on digital and content strategy for the Nike Kids business. She holds an MBA from Babson College and a degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon. Jessa leads Roost's business and operations, and her own experience navigating two very different postpartum seasons is what inspired her to build it with Megan and Whitney.

Whitney's career in infant feeding began in the UK's National Health Service as a Breastfeeding Peer Support Counselor, before she trained as a Registered Midwife in 2014. She went on to become a Tongue Tie Practitioner, treating hundreds of infants a year for tethered oral tissue, and in 2021 was appointed Infant Feeding Specialist Midwife, helping her hospital trust earn UNICEF Baby Friendly accreditation. She completed her IBCLC certification in 2022. Since relocating to the Pacific Northwest in 2023, Whitney has supported families through Andaluz and Astoria birth centers and Wildflower Lactation.
